Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) Results

The results of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) are reported as a high risk result or a low risk result. In a small percentage of cases, the laboratory will ask for a repeat NIPT blood draw because the result is reported as “no call” or “failed”.

Timing of results

Your NIPT result will be sent to the ordering health care provider typically within 7-10 business days. You should discuss with your provider how you will receive your results – in person or over the phone.

Next steps

It is important to understand that NIPT is a screening test and will not tell you with 100% certainty about the conditions screened. Only invasive diagnostic testing can give a definite answer about whether your baby has one of these conditions.
