Dr. Sandra Dunn

Dr. Sandra Dunn is a perinatal health services researcher and implementation scientist whose work focuses on improving maternal, newborn, and child health through integrated knowledge translation, implementation science, and population-based research. Using large-scale health system data, including BORN Ontario, she generates evidence to inform clinical practice, policy, and health system improvement, with a strong focus on health equity.

A key accomplishment is her leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating the Maternal Newborn Dashboard, an electronic audit-and-feedback system used across Ontario hospitals providing perinatal care. This work has advanced understanding of quality improvement, practice change, and evidence implementation in healthcare settings. Her research interests include implementation science, perinatal epidemiology, vaccine safety in pregnancy, health system performance, digital health innovation, and the social determinants of maternal-child health.

Sandra has contributed to provincial, national, and international initiatives, secured grants, mentored graduate students, and supported the development of decision-support and quality-improvement tools. A former neonatal intensive care nurse with a PhD in Nursing from the University of Ottawa, she is currently a Knowledge Translation Specialist and Project Advisor at BORN Ontario, supporting the RSV, CanOSS Perinatal Hemorrhage, and AI Pregnancy Chatbot initiatives.
