Lake of the Woods Hospital enters the 1st baby into the BORN
Information System on January 23, 2012!

The loss of a baby after 20 weeks gestation and before birth (called stillbirth) is a devastating pregnancy outcome. Stillbirth can be due to illness, infection, trauma or exposure to toxic substances, abnormalities in the baby, problems with the placenta that supplies the baby with blood flow and nutrition, or problems in the umbilical cord. However, in many cases there is no clear reason found at the time the baby dies.

Globally, there are limited data on COVID-19 illness and vaccination during pregnancy to inform recommendations for pregnant people and their care providers and to guide public health policies.

The BORN Ontario and Prenatal Screening Ontario offices are observing a slowdown period for the holiday season and will be closed December 27^th – January 3rd.  Phone calls or emails received during this time will be addressed when we return on January 4^th, 2022.

A new Prenatal Screening Ontario study, led by Dr. Christine M. Armour and powered by BORN data from hundreds of thousands of pregnancies, was published in the August 3 issue of Canadian Medical Association Journal. 

With support from the Public Health Agency of Canada, through the Vaccine Surveillance Reference Group and the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force, BORN is evaluating COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant individuals in Ontario.

Haudensaunee women from Six Nations took the initiative to honour the 215 children  who were buried on the site of what once was Canada's largest Indigenous residential schools. The women placed moccasins and shoes on the steps of the Brantford “Mush Hole.”
