What is Primary Care?

Primary care is the first point of contact most Canadians have with the health care system. It includes services that help people stay healthy, prevent illness, and manage common health concerns. Primary care is often provided by family doctors, nurse practitioners, or other health professionals in clinics or community settings. It includes things like check-ups, care for chronic conditions, mental health support, and referrals to specialists when needed. A strong primary care system helps ensure people get the right care at the right time, close to home.
