6-week online course

Perinatal Care in Northern, Rural and Remote Communities

January 6 - February 13th, 2025

Lakehead University's Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences (FHBS) has announced the second of three new micro-credential courses designed to address critical areas of need in the health of Northern, rural, and remote regions.

Perinatal Care in Northern, Rural and Remote Communities is a unique, interdisciplinary course designed to build knowledge and skills in perinatal health within the context of Northern, rural and remote health systems.

Open to all backgrounds, this course centers equity, anti-racism, and culturally safe care for Indigenous, Black, racialized, LGBTQ2S and other equity-deserving communities. Participants will learn to apply violence and trauma-informed, person-centered practices across the full perinatal spectrum including preconception to postpartum and newborn care. Participants will also engage with interactive content, join a peer community of practice, and learn how to bring evidence-based, context-specific care in Northern, rural and remote communities with a focus on Northern Ontario.
