Honoring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30, 2025

September 30, 2025

Honoring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. This important day honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of the residential school system, and the families and communities who continue to feel its impacts.

Over the past week, from September 25 to 30, Truth and Reconciliation Week has invited everyone in Canada to learn about the lasting legacy of residential schools, reflect on our shared history, and take meaningful steps toward reconciliation. Public commemoration and education are vital components of this process, helping to foster healing, understanding, and action.

As an organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all families, BORN Ontario stands in solidarity with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples. We encourage Canadians to acknowledge the truths of our country’s past, listen to Indigenous voices, and commit to the ongoing work required for reconciliation.

To help the BORN team develop a deeper understanding of Indigeneity as a whole, we are participating in the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Program – designed to uproot racism and enhance Indigenous cultural safety. All BORN team members are registered in and encouraged to complete the program.

Developing an Indigenous Data Governance Principles framework is one of the ways BORN is responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action (CTA).

Ways to Reflect and Take Action

  • Wear an orange shirt as a symbol of remembrance and support.
  • Participate in virtual or community learning events and explore Indigenous-led resources.
  • Begin meetings and gatherings with a land acknowledgement.
  • Speak with colleagues and community members about the meaning of reconciliation

Support Service

  • National Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line: 1-866-925-4419
  • Hope for Wellness Helpline (24/7 Indigenous mental health supports): 1‑855‑242‑3310

We encourage everyone to learn more and be part of building a stronger future grounded in truth, respect, and meaningful reconciliation.

Miigwetch – thank you for your commitment.
