Highlights from the Canadian Perinatal Programs Coalition Meeting
The Canadian Perinatal Programs Coalition (CPPC) is a partnership of perinatal/reproductive care programs and associations across Canada committed to fostering and supporting optimal care for families and facilitating the best possible outcomes for all mothers and babies.
At the October 6–7, 2025 CPPC meeting, participants focused on defining how this now, not-for-profit, legal entity can advance perinatal care nationwide through collaboration among programs across Canada.
Alicia St. Hill, Executive Director of BORN Ontario, says some of the immediate opportunities discussed included
- enhancing methodologies used to measure maternal mortality
- developing national reproductive health data standards working in concert with Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) on the Pan-Canadian Health Data Standards Framework (work being led by BORN), and
- understanding the impact of emerging and growing concerns around poor outcomes of free births.
“We also had extremely motivating presentations and discussions about interventions to support more compassionate and wraparound early pregnancy loss and complication care, as well as strategies to strengthen early recognition and referral for perinatal mental health conditions by supporting prenatal and primary care clinicians,” said Alicia.
