Here are some of the most common questions about the BIS, CARTR Plus, MIS, and NTQA:

BIS · BORN Information System

Forgot your password? No worries! Here's how you can reset your password:

  1. Go to Forgot Password
  2. Enter your sign-in email and Submit.
  3. The system will email the reset steps if your email matches.
    1. If you don’t receive the password reset email within 5 minutes, check your Spam or Junk folders, as well as your Focused and Other folders in Outlook.
  4. Still nothing? Submit the User Support form.

Follow these steps if you’ve forgotten your security questions:

  1. Contact your local administrator for help.
  2. If you don’t know who that is, submit the User Support form.

Forgot your user type? No problem!

  1. Go to User Lookup
  2. Enter your BIS sign-in email and hit Submit.
  3. The system will email your user type if your email matches.
    1. If you don’t receive the password reset email within 5 minutes, check your Spam or Junk folders, as well as your Focused and Other folders in Outlook.
  4. Still nothing? Submit the User Support form.

No, please don’t send PHI by email.

Examples of PHI: Patient names, OHIP numbers, chart numbers, or client ID numbers.

How to properly share PHI information:

  1. If you are a BIS user, use the Messages tab inside the BIS to send PHI securely.
  2. Otherwise, contact or call BORN (1-855-881-BORN (2676) to find a secure way to share it.

You can run a variety of BIS reports to explore and understand your patient population.

Do I need special access?

Yes, you need report permissions for your organization.

What types of data can I view?

You can check both Hospital and Midwifery data reports.

Who can help me choose the right report?

Your BORN Coordinator can guide you. View the list of Coordinators and the areas they serve.

All data requests are reviewed under the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA), Ontario's health-specific privacy legislation.

How to request data:

  1. Submit the Data Request Inquiry form.
  2. A BORN Ontario Data Request/Research Coordinator will review it and follow up with you.

New BIS accounts are created by your local administrator.

  1. Please contact them directly.
  2. If you don't know who that is, submit the User Support form and we'll tell you.

    1. Enter data manually into the BORN Information System (BIS)
    2. Upload batches of data from their Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
    3. Or use a mix of both — whatever works best for them
  2. Where can I find help with manual data entry?
    1. You can find guides and training materials right in the BIS:
      1. Log in to the BIS
      2. Click HELP on the top banner
      3. Choose BORN Reference Guides and Training Materials
      4. Pick your category (Hospital, Midwifery, PHU, etc.)
  3. How does batch upload work?
    1. If your site uploads data, staff enter information into the EMR as usual. A designated person then uploads that data into the BIS — it all happens behind the scenes.
  4. Where can I find batch upload resources?
    1. They’re in the same place as manual entry guides:
      1. Log in to the BIS
      2. Go to HELP → BORN Reference Guides and Training Materials
      3. Select your category
  5. What resources are available?

Where can I find dashboard resources?

Log into the BORN Information System (BIS) → Select Help BORN Reference Guides and Training Materials → choose your category (e.g., Hospitals).

What are Data Download Reports?

They include Encounter Lists and Patient Experience reports.

What are Patient-Level Reports?

These include Profile at Discharge, Encounter Summary, and Patient Experience.

Where can I learn how to run these reports?

CARTR Plus

The Canadian Assisted Reproductive Technologies Register (CARTR Plus) is a national system that collects, stores, and uses fertility treatment data from clinics across Canada.

In partnership with the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS), BORN works with fertility clinics across Canada to collect, store, and use fertility treatment data through CARTR Plus)

To view CARTR Plus resources such as upload specification, data elements guide, and more:

  1. Log in to the BIS
  2. Click HELP in the top banner
  3. Select BORN Reference Guides and Training Materials
  4. Choose CARTR Plus from the list of categories

MIS · Midwifery Invoice System

BIS accounts are created by your local administrator at your MPG (Midwifery Practice Group).

  1. Please contact them directly.
  2. If you don't know who that is, submit the User Support form and we’ll help you find them.

NTQA · Nuchal Translucency Quality Assurance

Do you need help viewing your sonographer curve? We can help you!

  1. Go to the BIS and log-in with your username and password.
  2. After logging in, select Reports.
  3. Select Clinical Reports.
  4. Select Individual Sonographer Curve.
  5. Select the date range and your NT number.
  6. Now, you can view your report and interpret your curve.
