Requisitions and Provider Tools

Provider Tools

Find tools and resources for your prenatal practice including provincial performance data for prenatal screening tests, Point of Care tools, helpful hints for ordering, screening algorithm and more.

Multiple Marker Screening - eFTS/MSS

Multiple marker screening (MMS) - most commonly enhanced first trimester screening (eFTS) and maternal serum screening (MSS) - is performed in Ontario by 3 provincial MMS laboratories, and each one has a specific catchment area: Trillium Health Partners – Credit Valley Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital and North York General Hospital.

One of Prenatal Screening Ontario's mandates is to help health-care providers choose and arrange the best screening tests possible for their patients, in the most clear and efficient way. With this in mind, Prenatal Screening Ontario has worked with the provincial MMS labs to develop a standardized requisition for each of the three labs.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

NIPT is currently available to all pregnant individuals in Ontario. The OHIP funding for NIPT varies and will depend on the reason for testing. There are two laboratories that perform NIPT in Ontario (Dynacare and LifeLabs). The requisitions and cost are lab specific. There are other labs who provide this type of screening outside of Canada, however Prenatal Screening Ontario does not have any data capture or quality assurance role.
