In January 2009, fetal fibronectin (fFN) testing was funded in all Ontario hospitals providing maternity care.  This funding was to implement testing in hospitals that had not yet started using the test and to fund the ongoing testing costs in hospitals already utilizing the test.  Recently, BORN Ontario (formerly the Ontario Perinatal Surveillance System), received funding from ECHO:  Improving Women’s Health in Ontario, to evaluate the implementation of fFN testing in Ontario. 

The overall goal of this study is to determine whether the introduction of fFN testing in Ontario hospitals has made a difference in health care use and costs, and the usefulness of test results to women with signs and symptoms of preterm labour, and their care providers.

If you are a physician, registered midwife or registered nurse who provides intrapartum care in Ontario and assisted with or performed a fFN test in the past year we are inviting you to participate in a focus group as part of this evaluation.  See the attached document for more details.
