At BORN Ontario, we make Data Quality one of our highest priorities. We recognize that the quality of data is directly related to use of the data and confidence in the results of any analysis. With the addition of benchmarking and comparators, the quality of data across all organizations, practice groups and programs must be tracked and maintained. Our goal is to ensure that data entered into the BORN Information System (BIS) is timely, accurate, comparable, usable and relevant for our stakeholders.
Every year, major enhancements are reviewed for implementation. Many of these enhancements correct defects and issues that impact data quality. An example from this year’s enhancement cycle is the units of measure that have been moved to the left of the height and weight data elements. The units of measure will now have to be selected first and will not default to metric which will have a positive impact on height and weight reliability (Figure below).
