Prenatal Screening Ontario

Prenatal Screening Ontario program offers pregnant women testing to find those at increased risk of having a baby being born with Down syndrome, trisomy 18 or an open neural tube defect. The program includes laboratory and ultrasound testing, clinical assessment, genetic counseling and diagnostic testing, and is coordinated through regional genetics centres. Over 90,000 pregnant women receive screening annually, which represents about 70% of all pregnancies in Ontario. Pregnancy and outcome information for each woman choosing prenatal screening is captured in the program’s database.
